I loved Bioware’s latest masterpiece Mass Effect.I could not help but feel the game was inspired by the works of Arthur C. Clarke, in that Mass Effect creates the same sense of awe and wonder about it’s original Universe.

I was a fan of Bioware’s Knights of the Old Republic games.Mass Effect is superior to those games in every sense.The gameplay is better paced, the action is better implemented.Best of all, the original Universe is a fantastic sci-fi canvas where Mass Effect can continue, and onto which Bioware can paint a great franchise.

There is an abundance of ME material on Bioware’s website, as well as in the Limited Edition of the game.It has been a long, long time since a game inspired me to read all of the literature and available information that is typically superficial garbage at best.The ME Universe is so well done and thought out, I found myself engorssed in every minute detail.The extra material also greatly enhanced my enjoyment of the game, as I knew the motives behind the different alien races, the history between the races, etc.I highly recommend the Collector’s Edition Strategy guide, for the exclusive Art Book as well.

With Mass Effect Bioware has created a new sci-fi universe that rivals the depth of Star Wars.Personally I found ME’s world more engaging because unlike Star Wars, Earth and it’s people are actors in the events that unfold.

I can’t wait for another opportunity to see the Stars with Commander Shepherd.

Review of Premier Mounts LPSA1537 Articulating Wall Mount for 15″ to 37″ Displays (Black)

This mount is revolutionary and accomplishes what I have been trying to get in a wall mount for 4 years. The versatility of this mount is great, you can spin the tv 360 degrees and tilt it in any direction, turn it 180 up, down, left and right. The only down side is that the mounting screws for wood studs are philips head, and really need to be a bolt, I would recommend purchasing bolts to replace these before you even try and strip the heads once you get 3/4 of the way in. The tension nuts need to be very very tight to keep the tv from tipping down, but it was fixed by tightening. I would highly recommend this mount for a multi-purpose room or bedroom that you may be watching tv from an awkward angle or different spot in the room depending on the time of day.

Pentax Optio E80 10MP Digital Camera Review (Black)

So I will start off by saying that cost was of major concern when I was shopping for my camera, and the price, honestly, is pretty good. But I’m here to tell you what you are and aren’t getting for that money.

Value-
I admit, I was purely going by review ratings (kind of), capabilities, name brand and price when I was shopping. But the price was pretty good for what it is, and the video features of this camera were better than others that were in the price range. The positives are the included USB cable but on the other hand, since it takes AAs, no rechargable batteries were included, instead just two alkalines were packed. You’ll have to get your own memory card too, but in this day and age, they’re realtively cheap anyways.

Appearance-
The slick black design is really nice and the contrasting chrome lens framing is good balance. It is by far more attractive than my old Nikon 5200. The big screen is also really nice, and the buttons are simple, minimalistic and quite just how I like them.

Construction and Quality-
The camera is solid and balanced and the buttons have a nice feel to them. However, while excused by the low price, I have my doubts about the plastic housing and its durability. Will the glossy black shell lose its luster and color?

Also of concern is the trap door for the batteries and memory card. My old Nikon had a nice sturdy metallic housing, but its ultimate failing was the battery trap door that didn’t sit flush after one of the tabs broke. The same design was used for this new Optio, and it worries me a bit more, since the Nikon had a latch holding back the battery while the trap door on this Optio has to do the work of holding back the two AA batteries.

Made in China. This was a negative for me, but discussing my reasons would be off topic. Decide for yourself. If I would have known and was made aware of competing products that weren’t made in China, I would have probably gone with something else.

Practicality-
It fits in my pockets just fine, no protruding parts, so it slides in and out of jean pockets just fine. The use of AAs is a great concept, since you don’t have to buy model specific batteries, instead just alkalines or AA rechargables. Great for a couple years down the line, if you want to keep the camera and the rechargables are shot. Cheaper and easier to find!

The filing system is quite handy, and instead of just one folder of all the pictures you’ve ever taken, it creates a new folder for every day and sorts the pictures by date. In playback mode, simply press the zoomout button 3 times, and it will show you a calendar with all the days that you took pictures. You can also disable this feature if you want to.

There is also an easy mode that turns off all the advanced information and just tells you the amount of pictures you still have room for, and the battery life, with larger text. This is useful if you don’t want all the complexities or have a hard time seeing all the small text.

Performance-
The camera would be just fine for someone who wants a camera that will take decent looking pictures, nothing more. The focus, the colors, and the sharpness are all fine most of the time. But if you want manual settings, like to get close ups or have other performance requirements, that is where the camera falls short. I’m not talking about megapixels, so if thats the only thing you understand or want to hear about, skip this section.

Autofocus: The focus works great on subjects that are far away to an armslength away. But if you enjoy getting close to flowers or small, detailed things, you’ll find yourself having to tell the camera to refocus a few times before you get a sharp image. My old Nikon was better in that respect, and I got really nice images of coins, flowers, and patterns, something that I’`m having more trouble doing. I find myself having to keep the camera a bit further away from the subject, even with macro. But of course, with twice the resolution, I can crop off the extra background and still have a high definition image.

Autofocus (cont.): In my old Nikon, you had the capability of defining which area of the picture you wanted autofocus to focus on, something lacking here. I miss that feature alot, but its not a complete deal breaker.

White balance: The WB is not user definable or atleast I haven’t figured out how to force a WB setting. The auto WB works most of the time, but there have been times where the WB was completely off and it was refusing to make white look white. Unacceptable if you want that control over the consistency of color in camera.

Video: The video works fine, but the audio quality is not quite what I’d like it to be. But then again, I do alot of video work and probably have higher expectations than most and I usually just use this camera for still images and not so much video. But the quality is acceptable and presentable. No real zoom during recording.

Summary and concluding remarks-
This camera looks good, is built well and all at a great price point. The camera lacks a metal casing, but otherwise feels fine, but the battery trapdoor is of some concern. For normal, pedestrian uses, the picture quality is fine, but the camera lacks user-definable settings for more sophisticated and/or demanding users. The video quality is ok and will do just fine for a family video or your vlogs. It takes widely availabe and cheap AA batteries and SD memory cards, so no worries there.

Is this camera full of features and advanced capabilities? No.
Does it take good pictures/videos? Yes.
Are there better cameras? Yes.
Its it worth the price? At the Amazon discounted price w/ free shipping, yes.

Fisher-Price Kid Tough Portable DVD Player Blue Review

I bought this product at Walmart as a gift for my 7 year old son who has special needs. He loves DVD’s but he also loves pushing the buttons and making things happen. I introduced this to him last week before making an 8 hour road trip for the holiday weekend. It was perfect! The buttons are big and he learned what they do very quickly. He’s dropped it and tossed it a few times already. The worse thing that has happened is that the DVD came dislodged. The thing looks like we’ve had it for a long time already because he is very rough with toys, but it has held up wonderfully!I’m thrilled and highly recommend it to anyone who’s child likes to be in control of his dvd player.

Two quick things that I don’t like for my situation, I wish the door could lock so he couldn’t get it open. I am using a small piece of tape to keep him from getting it opened and from scratching the dvds.And it takes a little longer for the dvd to start playing. Children (and parents) will have to learn a little patience. Otherwise, AWESOME!

Sopranos’ writer, Matthew Weiner’s Mad Men series is arguably the best reason to own a television these days. Set in 1960s New York City, the show involves a group of Madison Avenue ad executives and their secretaries working, smoking, drinking, and socializing together at the Sterling Cooper advertising agency. In the show’s first season, Mad Men provided viewers with a window into an American culture of Nixon-era social taboo-isms: alcoholism, sexism, racism, and consumerism, which is mainly what made Mad Men so fascinating. It’s easy to see why the show won two Golden Globe awards in 2007 for Best Television Series – Drama, and Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama and the Emmy Award for Best Outstanding Drama Series. Imagine the “Mad-ness” of a bunch of complicated, alcoholic, Nixon-era, GQ ad men in starched white shirts, spending their workdays in a fog of cigarette smoke, and you’ll have the basic premise of this highly-acclaimed, must-see show.

Mad Men’s characters are a truly well-drawn bunch. For instance, the protagonist, Don Draper (Jon Hamm), is not only the creative director and junior partner of Sterling Cooper, he is also the illegitimate son of a prostitute, now living an assumed identity to hide his inner “whore child” from his wife and competitive Madison Avenue colleagues. Don is unhappy with his life. He drinks Jack Daniels, chain smokes Lucky Strikes, cheats on his trophy wife Betty (January Jones), and constantly dreams of escaping his life.He is known to sneak away from work to see afternoon foreign movie matinees. Betty, a former model, represents the classic ’50s homemaker, but suffers from profound loneliness, sexual frustration, and dissatisfaction with her “perfect” life. (In Season One, we learned that household appliances literally give her orgasms.) With aspirations of becoming the agency’s first woman copywriter, Peggy Olsen (Elisabeth Moss) was a new secretary at Sterling Cooper, who was unexpectedly confronted with an unwanted pregnancy. RE the previous review, I formatted this card in a Canon 5D and found that it provided the advertised capacity. I typically use Lexar 300x cards and am satisfied with them, but I decided to try the Kingston Ultimate on the strength of its first-place recommendation in a recent review:

I have gone to 16GB cards for the capacity but have not tried 32GB cards because, as of this writing, there are none fast enough.The real speed stops at 16GB, and slower cards (e.g. the “133x” class) will stop the camera with rapid buffer fills during extended shooting bursts.There really is a significant difference in burst length between the 133x cards and the speed-demons.As to capacity, with the 5D I can get about 900 RAWs in 16GB — more than enough for an entire wedding, almost enough for a dance performance (which is where I need the speed). If burst speed is not an issue for you, a slower but more capacious card may be a more cost-effective choice.

i was hesistant at first when i purchased this bundle because ithought all three games were going to be on one disc….actually, all three games come in their own individual case with their own book, just like if you were buying them individually….only thing different is that all three individually wrapped games are wrapped together with ESA holiday bundle paper insert..

so price wise, it is well worth the money because it definitely saves you money..

Found this at BB for a pretty good price. I was a bit worried about the weight and size, but overall it is very nice.
Pros:
Large, full keyboard with big keys.
beautiful 16 inch HD screen, very impressive.
Excellent processor, Hard Drive, graphics card, and webcam.
Nice touchpad (besides the buttons).

Cons:
Touchpad buttons suck, very large and clunky.
This sucker is heavy!
Finish picks up a lot of finger prints, smudges.
Status lights are tiny with bad labels.
Volume wheel looks like it could be broke off easily.
